BASI PILATES EDUCATION

Which BASI Education Program is right for me?

BASI is proud to offer several programs to meet your personal and professional goals. Since every person pursuing our education is unique, we are happy to guide you through the best route for your individual needs on a one-on-one basis. Please email [email protected] and someone from our team will be happy to chat through the details of our programs with you and find the best path for your Pilates teacher training journey.

I just started Pilates, am I a good candidate for participating in the Comprehensive Program or do I need more experience?

It depends on your general movement experience. For example, individuals with a high level of movement experience (dancers, fitness trainers, athletes) tend to pick up the concepts and practical portion of the program quickly even with a minimal amount of Pilates experience. Our recommendation is that everyone have at least some familiarity with Pilates prior to beginning their program, as well as a basic understanding of human anatomy.

I have completed the Mat Program and want to take the Comprehensive Program. Will I receive a discount on tuition?

Absolutely! We encourage all students who have completed a Mat Program either through BASI Pilates or another Pilates education school to continue their studies in the comprehensive teacher training. In the U.S., returning Mat students will receive 10% off the Foundation Program. There is an additional discount of $200 when registering for both Foundation & Graduate Programs together. Outside of the U.S., students will receive 10% off the Comprehensive Global Program price. To register, enroll in your program of choice with the $500 deposit option. BASI will apply the discount as soon as you notify us that you are a returning Mat student. Discounts may not be available in Licensee territories.

I have completed another organization's training. Do you have a bridge program?

Yes! The BASI Pilates ProBridge Program is open to qualified Pilates teachers who have graduated from a Comprehensive Pilates teacher training program of 450+ hours with experience on all apparatus in all levels. If a ProBridge Program is not currently offered in your area, you may enroll in our standard Comprehensive Program at a discounted rate. The graduation requirements are adjusted for ProBridge students and omit the student research paper and student hours requirements. Note that this option may not be available in License Territories. Proof of previous graduate certificate is required to verify eligibility for the ProBridge Program.

If I register for the Foundation Program and decide to register for the Graduate Program at a later time, could I still receive the $250 discount?

BASI will extend the $250 discount to those enrolled in the Foundation Program through Module 3.

May I complete modules in more than one location?

As long as the modules are taken in order, we are happy to accommodate someone who begins in one BASI Host location and needs to transfer to another location. (Additional fees may apply; license territories are excluded).

If I register for a course and cannot attend, do I get my money back?

BASI offers limited refunds for students who cancel prior to or during a program. The amount you receive back depends on how soon you cancel your registration, and for which program you are canceling your attendance in. Please review our Refund Policy for further details.

What happens if I miss a Module?

We prefer that the modules are taken in order, however, it is acceptable to miss 1 – 2 modules and continue with the program. You are encouraged to make up these modules at another host location (additional fees may apply) or the next scheduled program at your host location. Please notify BASI Headquarters or your license territory representive as soon as you know you are unable to attend certain modules. Students have one year from the original module date to make up missed modules. Students must attend all modules in their program before they qualify to take the Final Practical Exam and Final Teaching Evaluation and receive their graduate certificate.

What happens if I get pregnant or injured during the program?

If you begin the program and become pregnant or injured and you can no longer continue, BASI will place your training on hold for up to one year. Please contact BASI Headquarters or your license territory representative as soon as you know you are unable to continue with the program. BASI reserves the right to request a doctor’s release prior to your return. Tuition fees will be held up to one year and will be applied to the program and location of your choice upon your return.

How can I complete my Observation Hours if there are no BASI Pilates instructors for me to watch in my location?

We hope each BASI Pilates student will have the opportunity to work directly with BASI Faculty or BASI instructors. However, we understand that not everyone has access to a BASI studio or instructor. For this reason, we will allow students to apply 50% of the required Observation Hours through BASI Interactive (formerly called Pilates Interactive): www.pilatesinteractive.com. BASI Interactive is a BASI-approved online e-learning platform that provides the complete BASI repertoire in individual video clips, as well as full-length Mat and Apparatus classes taught by Rael Isacowitz and other BASI Faculty. We can work with you and provide you with alternative ways to obtain the remaining Observation Hours. Please contact BASI Headquarters for more details.

How many hours of Self-Practice and Student Teaching Hours are expected of me and how do I get these hours?

The BASI Pilates Comprehensive Program requires the completion of 200 hours of Self-Practice and 200 hours of Student Teaching. The BASI Pilates Mat Program requires 40 hours of Self-Practice and 30 hours of Student Teaching. Self Practice hours are spent practicing the work on your own, with other students, or taking private sessions and/or group classes taught by BASI instructors. Student Teaching hours are spent teaching other students, family members, friends, and eventually clients. Students are encouraged to begin their Self Practice and Student Teaching hours as soon as they start the program and learn the repertoire. These hours may be obtained at your Host Studio at no extra cost (some terms apply) or at any Pilates studio that allows you to use their space (some studios may charge a studio use fee—check with your local studio owner for their terms and conditions). Keep in mind that the Mat repertoire may be practiced and taught at any location, even at home.

How long does it take to complete the requirements of the program?

In most BASI Host locations, the modules are spread out over 2-6 months, depending on the program and program schedule. On average it takes students approximately one year from the last module of their program to complete all the students hours and pass their examinations. If students do not complete or pass their requirements within 3 years of their program, BASI may require students to repeat modules.

What happens if I miss the day of the exam?

If you miss the written exam day, you may make it up during another module/program at another location. Arrangements can be made for a proctored exam time at the host studio. Final practical exams and teaching evaluations are scheduled and paid for in advance. If you miss the day of the exams, you will lose your exam fee and will need to schedule another time to take the exams.

What happens if I do not pass my exams?

Written exams that are taken online may be retaken immediately until they are passed. Written exams taken with pen and paper may be retaken at a later date. If you do not pass your final practical exam, teaching evaluation, or both, you may retake these exams at a later date (additional fees will apply). Note that if you pass one portion of your final exams, but not the other, you will only need to retake the portion you did not pass. We encourage everyone to retest when you feel 100% confident with your knowledge and work. Contact BASI Headquarters to schedule your retest.

What credential do I receive when I complete the BASI Pilates Mat Program or Comprehensive Program?

Upon completion of your program, you will receive a BASI Pilates Teaching Certificate. This certificate qualifies you to teach Pilates at a high level in most Pilates studios worldwide. This certificate never expires and does not require CECs to maintain. In addition, you can proudly call yourself a BASI Graduate and be part of an international family of passionate Pilates professionals.
