The Legacy Program represents the confluence of the art and science of learning, teaching, and practicing Pilates at the highest level. Structured in four distinct phases, this program offers a personal and life-changing exploration into the most advanced and diverse repertoire, along with an in-depth study of the teaching nuances of the Pilates method. It provides a unique and enriching journey for those committed to mastering their craft.
Phase 4 of the BASI Pilates Legacy Program, Honors, revolves around the themes of evolution and preservation—two seemingly opposing concepts that are essential for the continued growth of Pilates. This phase explores innovative choreography and equipment developed within BASI, while remaining firmly grounded in the original works and principles of Joseph Pilates, honoring the founder and creator of the Pilates method.
This is a 3-day learning experience that includes 18 hours of instruction and learning.
Program Structure
The concepts discussed are exercise progression and appropriate level. These 2 areas go to the heart of everyday teaching. They are the primary concern of every novice teacher. It is appropriate that the Legacy Program, geared toward very seasoned teachers, would go full circle and conclude with revisiting these ever-important topics. Set, unique warm-ups on the Reformer, Cadillac, F2 Chair, and Wunda Chair are taught. In addition, the Advanced and Master-level repertoire is taught on these very same pieces of apparatus.
Setting Objectives, both short-term and long-term, is discussed. This is an area often lacking in today’s large group class format found in many gyms and Pilates studios. It is an important concept in the BASI environment and is revisited in the Honors. Additional set warm-ups are presented and seldom seen Advanced and Master-level repertoire is taught on the Reformer, Reformer Combo, Cadillac, and Wunda Chair.
The final day of the Honors addresses advanced concepts in analyzing movement such as using “energy lines” and “flow”. The most unique and original repertoire is introduced as well as some of the Master-level classic Pilates movements. At the same time, certain exercises are broken down and variations are offered for select populations. This is an exciting day as it is the wrap up of the entire Legacy Program, a program that for most people spans many years and countless hours of devoted practice.
