Welcome Home

I feel like I have come home! I absolutely love our new BASI academy and studio. Certainly owning the building has a lot to do with it, but it is beyond that. This building, from the moment I walked in, emanated peace, calm and just felt like me. This is my 4th studio in the USA and I have worked in countless others in other countries. I can say categorically none have felt like this one. It is like putting on my favorite pair of jeans, comfortable, worn-in and full of life’s experiences.

Finding the building was the culmination of a 2 years search sprinkled with many ups and downs – basically a roller coaster ride. Then the negotiations, the process of actually closing on the purchase, followed by the construction and finally the move. Most people said it would be impossible to close on the sale, do construction and move in 3 weeks. As most of you know, “impossible” is my tonic, it is my fuel!. I must admit I had moments of doubt. BUT, we did it! The team was amazing. I always say, it can never be one person, its all about team work. We did pull off some very long days. Last Saturday was an 18 hour day.

The first week has been all about settling in; fixing little things, adjusting, moving and adapting and wrapping up the construction. No doubt it will still take some time to get everything the way I envision it. But as I reflect back on our first week and the new and improved BASI HQ – I am filled with joy and excitement. At the age of (almost) 63 and 40 years in the teaching profession, I am rejuvenated. I feel like a young man full of energy about to embark on a wonderful new adventure.
